Urban Components - Viewing Logic
The drawing set out to assemble Istanbul’s urban components into a viewing logic - between actor and spectator - football pitch, basketball court, cinema screen or theatre stage and seats, stands or terraces.
Operating without a specific context, the resulting collage presents a set of new formal relations and hierarchies. A sightline cuts through a residential tower block whose balconies lean out towards the pitch. Flats are staggered alongside stadium seating. A bazaar and han occupy interior spaces. As a celebrated building, the mosque is positioned above the viewing angle of the pitch, remaining a highly visible element. Similarly, a gated community occupies a privileged a space - above the stands, connected only by an elevator to a mall, then carpark, then motorway. A cornershop and street is positioned at pitchlevel. The form of the cinema and theatre slot into one another.
